The prestigious academic institute of Pepperdine University is a Christian school located just 10 minutes from the Malibu Country Inn. The university is well known for its high standards of academic excellence while also upholding Christian values. Students each day are motivated and given direction to live lives of purpose, service, and leadership.
On September 21, 1937, Pepperdine University’s story officially began. Commemorated as the official Founder’s Day, George Pepperdine, who founded the first institution in Los Angeles, brought to life his vision. This vision was first to create a space for students to develop a strong academic training in the liberal arts, and second, to help students build a solid life embedded with Christian values.
It wasn’t until October of 1968 that Pepperdine received a generous donation of 138 acres of land in Malibu. Generously donated by Merritt H. Adamson, Sylvia Rindge Adamson Neville, and Rhoda-May Adamson Dallas, Pepperdine University’s Malibu campus was essentially born. It was officially celebrated at a “Birth of a College” dinner party on February 9, 1970, which was headlined by then Governor Ronald Regan.
After the construction of the campus had been mostly completed, the Malibu Campus welcomed its first class on September 6, 1972. Out of the 867 students, 475 of them were freshmen, which was the largest of any Pepperdine Campus enrolled up until this time. The campus has continued to grow and further develop over the decades and enrollment has flourished into the thousands each year.
